A tall slender smoked fired Stoneware Obvara piece. A difficult technique but so worth it as the results are spectacular. When I pulled this piece from the smoke sagger, it immediately reminded me of the winter months in the Midlands area of Kwa Zulu Natal Province of South Africa. Nature slows down and comes to rest. Cold winter nights and mild sunny winter without rain, and occasional light snow that fills the space in between. On wind still days the farmers do firebreaks to prevent winter veldt fires from running rampant when the uKhahlamba Drakensberg winds come blowing from the mountains. A wonderful place to be.

Elements Air is a natural food safe solution with anti-bacterial properties for use on any unglazed fired ceramic surface. Unlike a varnish, it does not form a film on the treated surface, but rather penetrates and saturates the ceramic material. It is a matt application and once dry forms a completely invisible layer on the surface. It is highly water repellant, oil and fat repellent and anti-bacterial.
